Our practice is founded by Steven G. Leeds, MD, an experienced minimally invasive surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Leeds is fellowship trained and specializes in minimally invasive surgery techniques. Studies have shown minimally invasive surgery allows for shorter hospital stays, faster return to work, fewer surgical site infections, less use of pain medication, and better satisfaction with the cosmetic outcome of scars. Dr. Leeds treats several conditions of the esophagus and stomach and performs many general surgical procedures using these innovative surgical techniques. Aside from the surgery aspect of his practice, he focuses on a multidisciplinary effort to treat all aspects of patient care when needed and emphasizes surgical education and research. He is currently the director of minimally invasive surgery research at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas and promotes the newest surgical technology and evidence-based practice for all his patients.
"As surgeons, we need to do a better job at making the surgical experience of our patients more pleasant, less painful, and have a better cosmetic outcome with the same goal as traditional approaches," says Dr. Leeds.
Minimally invasive surgery is the progression of surgical technology to the use of image guidance to perform surgical procedures. This progression uses small incisions, a camera or an endoscope and has even allowed us to do some surgery without incisions.
